About Me
Who I am
Hi! I’m Helen.
I am a queer counsellor, mum, and active traveller who loves music, being outdoors, stories, and adventures.
Music is a big part of my life. I’m always listening to something, and I go to as many live gigs and festivals as I can. For me, music is self-care - it can match my mood, shift how I’m feeling, or help me process things when words just aren’t quite enough.
I’m proudly nerdy and love sci-fi, fantasy and anything with good characters and an interesting story. Crafting and building Lego is almost like mindfulness meditation for me: focusing on one small step at a time helps quieten everything else down.
I increasingly recognise some ADHD-leaning traits in the way I think and act. I’m fascinated by people and the different ways we think, process information and experience the world. I believe it’s important to recognise, celebrate and support someone’s strengths and uniqueness.
I’m British and have lived in the Netherlands since 2012. Moving countries meant building a new life away from family and friends, navigating a different culture and language, and finding my place somewhere new. It’s given me personal experience of what it can feel like to be outside your comfort zone while working out where you belong.
I’m energetic and active, so I love getting outside to walk, run or just drink coffee on my balcony. Getting outside and into nature also helps me to take a break from screens and the general busy-ness in life. I love travelling and exploring new places, usually in my old VW campervan.
I’m queer (bi/pan) and came out late in life. My own journey has involved navigating compulsory heterosexuality, finding self-acceptance and working out what it means to build a life that feels authentic to me. I’m a cis woman (she/her), but I’ve never felt the need to fit into traditional ideas of femininity. That experience has given me a personal understanding of how complicated - and freeing - exploring identity can be.
